LSH 2903 – Community Service Learning – Exercise #5

Have a look at this page on the internet: http://www.worldvolunteerweb.org/browse/sectors/education.html

This page has some ideas about how people can volunteer through education projects.

Once you have read through the pages, you need to work in groups of 4 or 5.
In your groups, come up with a project which you think can be advanced through an educational setting. There are no restrictions, but your idea should be innovative and should aim at adding real value to the people you are trying to help.

As you are working through your project, one of you should be putting together a short presentation (Powerpoint, etc) to explain to the rest of the group what you are trying to achieve.

Syrian volunteers help evacuees from Lebanon 26 July 2006

 The link:

1.              What are the aims of the project
Because of the war that was between Israel and Lebanon, many people from Lebanon travelled out of their country, so they needed a home, the Syrians build houses and centres for them, so the aim is to help the Lebnanes to have home in Syria and there was a lot of volunteers from Syria.
2.              Who are the target audience, and why?
The Lebnanes who moved from Lebanon because of the war.
3.              What activities would your project involve?
Building houses and shelters, providing water and food for the evacuated people from Lebanon, create a safe environment for them and get for them the care they need if someone needed a medical care.
4.              Who would be volunteering? Why?
Everyone is involved in this, the families can donate money, food and cloths for the Lebanese, The students can work organizing the place for them, the charities could collect money from everyone to buy stuff for them like beds and blankets, and if their was a problem with the number of the families from Lebanon, and there are no more places for them, they can open the schools and every where is safe for them.
5.              What are the benefits your project could bring to the target audience?
Our project will help getting everyone what they need as fast as possible and we can collect money from people outside Syria to provide What they need here, and to organize the situation there, because if the number of the volunteers is high, the job will be easier for everyone, even for the people from Lebanon.
6.              How would you look into launching your project with reference to the relevant authorities in the UAE and in the country you have targeted?
There are many charities in the UAE that would help our project outside the country such as Red Crescent, they will provide what we need to travel and everything starting with the instruction until we got there and finish our project, And they will contact with the Syrian to inform them what we are going to do there.
7.              What problems do you think you might come across and how would you try to get around them?

We could face problems in the traveling and finding the right place to get our project on fire, and to secure the families from Lebanon. But to solve this problems we should contact with Competent authorities to organize the places and to secure the families from the fire shooting and everything that could hurt them.

*Quick note about this subject*
This was in 2006 when the Lebanon had problems in their country, and the Syrian people helped them wit everything they got. Now a days, Syria  have problems, a really huge problems and they need some where safe to be in, unfortunately the Lebnanese didn't anything to help them and they forgot everything the Syrians did for them! this is not the right morals of the arabian people, further they get over the media talking about how they are sick from the Syrians in their country! and they published many things on the walls saying that they don't want to help the Syrians and everyone who would help them he will get punished by swearing, and days ago the burned down the Syrians shelters in Lebanon! They should help them and to have some humanity and the shouldn't  forget what the Syrians did for them when they needed help.
